Getting started 4

What should I wear and bring?
Shorts and a t‑shirt, a water bottle, and yourself. We'll lend you a gi if you'd like to try Jiu Jitsu in the traditional uniform. Train barefoot on the mat; sandals are handy for off it.
Do I have to spar on day one?
No. There's no live sparring until you're ready, and that's your decision, not ours. Your first class is about learning the basics and getting a feel for the place.
Can I just watch first?
Absolutely. You're welcome to watch a class before you train. Come in, take a seat, and see the gym for yourself.
Will I get hurt?
We teach control and injury prevention from day one. Expect to be tired and sore. Injuries are rare, and you decide when live sparring starts.

Pricing and membership 8

Is the trial really free?
Yes. Your first three classes are free, and taking them commits you to nothing.
Do I have to lock in for a year?
No. Every plan is available month to month. The twelve month plans cost less per month, and they are an option rather than a requirement.
Do you offer family pricing?
Yes. We offer discounts for groups, families, veterans, service members, first responders and more. Call (805) 895‑4454 or ask at the front desk to see what applies to you.
Do you offer a veterans or EMS discount?
Yes. Veterans, active service members, first responders and EMS get a better rate. Call (805) 895‑4454 or ask at the front desk to see what applies to you.
What's included in a membership?
Unlimited classes at your level: Fundamentals, all‑levels, competition and open mat, in both Gi and No‑Gi, plus wrestling. Striking is its own adult program at the same rate, or on one plan with Jiu Jitsu.
How do I sign up?
Start with a free trial. The front desk sets up your plan when you are ready to join.
Is there a sign-up fee?
Yes. A one-time $150 registration fee opens your membership, per individual or group, and it includes a High Street rash guard.
What does it cost?
Membership is month to month or twelve months, and your first three classes are free. The plans, family rates and discounts are all on the pricing page.

Adult Jiu Jitsu 3

I've never done any martial art. Is that okay?
More than okay, it's most of who walks in. Fundamentals is built for true beginners, and you won't be thrown into live sparring until you're ready. Your first three classes are free, so there's no commitment to find out if it's for you.
Do I need to be in shape first?
No. Jiu Jitsu is how you get in shape. Come as you are and go at your own pace. The mat meets you where you are on day one.
What's the difference between Gi and No‑Gi?
The gi is the traditional uniform you can grip; no‑gi is trained in shorts and a rash guard with no grips on the cloth. We teach both, six days a week. Most students end up loving one and respecting the other. We'll lend you a gi for your first class.

Kids Jiu Jitsu 3

My child is shy and has never done a sport. Is that okay?
That is exactly who these classes are built for. Coaches start kids slowly, in a friendly group, with small wins that build confidence from the first day. Most shy kids settle in within a class or two. The first three classes are free, so there is an easy way to see how your child takes to it.
Is it safe?
Yes. Classes are age-appropriate and supervised at all times, with no reckless live sparring. The coaches specialize in kids and know how to keep things both safe and fun while still teaching real skill.
What age can my child start?
Kids can start from ages 4 to 15. Classes are grouped appropriately by age and stage so younger and older kids are each met at the right level.

Striking 3

I have never thrown a punch. Can I start?
Yes. The fundamentals are built for beginners, so you'll learn stance, footwork and the core strikes from the ground up alongside other first-timers. Your first three classes are free, so there's no commitment to find out if it's for you.
Do I have to spar or fight?
No. Sparring is optional and earned, never thrown at you. Many of our students train purely for the skill and the fitness and never step into a ring, and that is completely fine.
Is it a good workout?
It's one of the best. Conditioning is built into every class, so you'll move, sweat and get stronger while you learn, without ever staring at a clock on a treadmill.

Wrestling 3

I have never wrestled. Can I start?
Yes. The fundamentals are built for beginners, taught slowly and clearly, so you can pick up stance, motion, and the core shots from scratch. Your first three classes are free, so there's no commitment to find out if it's for you.
I wrestled years ago. Is it for me too?
Yes. Returning wrestlers are welcome, and there are high-level partners here who will help you knock the rust off and get sharp again. You'll find people to push you whatever your starting point.
Do I need to be a Jiu Jitsu student?
No. You can train wrestling on its own. That said, wrestling and Jiu Jitsu feed each other, and many of our students train both because the takedown changes everything about how a roll starts.
